"The results of the treatment group showed that there was no significant difference in the overall sexual activity score between the treatment group and the placebo group," he added.
DeSantis said the researchers were also looking at the relationship between blood pressure and erectile function.
The study was published online inon March 24.
In this study, the researchers administered two sildenafil drugs: Viagra and Cialis. The researchers looked at the effect of the treatments on blood pressure and erectile function, using a standardized questionnaire.
"This study shows that when sildenafil is used in conjunction with Viagra or Cialis to treat erectile dysfunction, the combination could be a safer and more effective treatment for patients," DeSantis said.
The researchers also found that sexual dysfunction was significantly more likely in men who were prescribed Viagra or Cialis than in men who were not.
"Men who are prescribed a combination of these two drugs should not have sexual activity for the duration of their erectile dysfunction," DeSantis said. "If they have mild erectile dysfunction, it is very important that they take appropriate medication and avoid the use of sildenafil."
The researchers noted that the study results showed that there is a possible link between the treatments and sexual dysfunction.
